Can I become a PSW while still providing services through an agency as a DSP?

Yes! You can take the steps to become a PSW (complete application and training requirements) and continue to work hours through an agency if you wish. Completing these steps early will allow you to start work as a PSW quickly with no interruption to service for your client if they need or choose to leave the agency and receive services through the state.

Will I get Paid Time Off (PTO) as a PSW?

We know taking time off work is crucial to your physical, mental, and emotional health! That’s why Carewell SEIU 503 offers eligible care providers up to 48 hours of PTO benefits every year. You can earn 1 hour of PTO for every 20 hours worked, up to a maximum of 4 hours of PTO benefits every month.

Will I get medical benefits as a PSW?
As a PSW, you may be eligible for Healthcare Cost Assistance. This benefit makes healthcare coverage more affordable by covering your monthly premium and up to $7,165 in out-of-pocket costs.
  • You must enroll in a Carewell-approved individual medical plan purchased through the Marketplace or be enrolled in Medicare.
  • Providers transitioning from a private agency to become a PSW may use recent hours worked at the private agency to qualify for these benefits. You must have worked 40 hours or more in 2 of the last 3 months to be eligible (see other eligibility requirements and details for how to apply here).
What about other benefits?

How do I know if I’m eligible for benefits?

For providers transitioning from a private agency to work as a PSW with the State of Oregon, hours recently worked at the private agency may count toward the eligibility requirements belowYou will need to provide pay stubs showing hours worked for the last 2 months.
