New Worker Training

The three-part New Worker Training helps new care providers like you learn about your role as a homecare or personal support worker or personal care attendant. The training also gives you an introduction to providing safe, high-quality services to your consumer.

You will start with a 6-hour, in-person New Worker Orientation, which you must complete before you are approved to work.

Orientation is followed by 8 hours of self-paced, online New Worker Core training. You will need to complete the New Worker Core training within the first 120 days of receiving your provider number.

You will need to pass an assessment after each section of training.

Be sure to complete an application before you begin training. Applications can be found on the Oregon Home Care Commission (OHCC) Workforce application page.

Stipend Information

Do I have to pay for training?

No. The training is free to all homecare and personal support workers and personal care attendants.

Will I be provided a stipend for training I take?

Yes. You will be given a stipend of $144 once you complete all of new worker training ($72 for Core Part 1 and $72 for Core Part 2). There is no stipend for attending Orientation. In order to qualify for a stipend payment, all new worker training courses must be completed within 120 days of receiving a provider number from the State of Oregon.

Please see the stipend policy for more information on stipends.

How do I receive the stipend?

When you’ve successfully completed all of your training, you will receive an email from the Carewell Learning Portal introducing you to Routable, a payment service provider. Within a couple weeks of that, you should receive an email from Routable that will send you a link to fill out some information. If you do not see the email from Routable, please check your spam folder.

  • It will first ask you to fill out tax-related items like your address and Social Security number.
    •  Make sure to select “individual” and not “business” when it asks you which one you are.
    • Click “Save and continue” to move on to the next step.
  • It will next ask you whether you would like to receive the stipend through direct deposit or by check.
    • If you select direct deposit, you will need to fill out your bank account information to set up the payment.

Once you’ve provided your information to Routable, you should see your stipend within 7-10 business days.

Please see the stipend policy for more information on stipends.
